Well I obviously think it’s pretty disgusting that some neckbeards went out of their way to obtain them. This whole fiasco was a flagrant act of sexual violence and a clear violation of privacy, and I’m glad that there is action being taken against those who obtained and posted the photos.
I think it’s really interesting, though, to ask ourselves why so many people (men) are jizzing themselves over these photos. Jennifer Lawrence has posed practically nude plenty of times. She is basically nude in X-Men and there are plenty of photos of her in lingerie. Kate Upton has also posed basically nude PLENTY of times. But people (men) LOVE these photos. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that our culture finds sexual violence appealing and the fact that these women were violated makes these pictures all the more sexy. It’s disgusting and frightening, to say the least.
I also find it interesting (but not surprising) that the release of these photos has been sensationalized, unlike the release of male celebrity’s private photos. I don’t even have to point out that female celebrities receive much harsher backlash than male celebrities when it come to this sort of thing and I definitely don’t have to point out why.
I would also just like to point out that if you are passing these photos around then you are PART OF THE PROBLEM. You are no better than the people who obtained and posted them. Just because these women are famous does not mean that they are any different from your friend whose nude photos were passed around in high school. If you feel a moral obligation to not participate in passing around photos of a young woman being raped, then you should ask yourself why you feel any differently about this situation. These women have been deliberately violated and when you participate in sensationalizing and sharing these photos, you violate them further.
I just can’t wait for legal action to be taken against the gross neckbeards who were thirsty and pathetic enough to do this.
