Two other women, also breast cancer survivors, said their husbands left them after they were diagnosed. Both had to have mastectomies (in case anyone doesn’t know, this is the surgical operation to remove one or both breasts).

The first woman said her husband told her that he would rather see her dead than see her lose her breasts. The second woman had her operation and waited all day to be picked up by her husband, who never arrived. By nightfall, one of the nurses offered to give her a ride, and she came home to find the house empty.

Obviously, these are extreme cases of a man’s reaction to his wife’s breast cancer, but this is what I see when I see the “I ♥ Boobies” bracelets. I see love of the body parts, not the person being treated—not the patient, not the victim, not the survivor.

today i had to close all by myself, which meant i had to serve customers and make their food break...

today i had to close all by myself, which meant i had to

serve customers and make their food
break down the hot bar and cover the cold bar
wash all the dishes, including pans and containers the food was in today
count the register (which always takes me an hour because i’m really bad at it)
make sure everything is off, unplugged and/or locked up
clean all the surfaces, sweep, and mop
and take out the trash

alone.

and i know that i did everything, i checked and rechecked everything no less than 3 times, and yet i still feel like i’m going to walk in tomorrow and discover the place burnt down or i forgot to put food away and it went bad or something else horrible that will get me yelled at. like, i will not be calm until i go in tomorrow and get told explicitly that i did everything correct. i’m not even anticipating good feedback on the register in the morning, i’m expecting to get bitch slapped for it at this point, but i don’t know, i just need someone to come rub my back and tell me i did good.

literally the thing i’m most proud of today is that i made some kick ass cornbread. really, it was so good. but otherwise i’m so stressed.
